Nintendo Switch

Join a Minecraft server on your Nintendo Switch

Before you start

Make sure:

  • MCCompanion is open on your PC, Mac, or phone
  • Your Switch is connected to the same network
  • You know which MCCompanion server you want to use (EU: 161.97.182.113 or US: 217.77.15.138)

Steps

  1. Connect everything to the same network

Make sure your phone/tablet running MCCompanion and your console are on the same Wi‑Fi (avoid Guest Wi‑Fi if possible) while sending the DNS config.

  1. Open MCCompanion

Launch the app on your phone or tablet.

  1. Enter your server details

Enter the server address (IP or domain) and port (default: 19132), or pick one from your saved/recommended servers.

  1. Select a server and select Nintendo as the mode

Tap on the server you prefer and select Nintendo.

  1. Start Nintendo Mode

Tap Start Nintendo Mode. MCCompanion will send the configuration to its servers.

  1. Set your console's DNS

Set your console's DNS to the IP you were provided as the primary DNS, and leave the secondary DNS field blank.

  1. Join from your console

Open Minecraft on your console and navigate to the servers section. You should see some servers with the MOTD "MCCompanion RelayServer"; feel free to join any of them.

Good to know

  • This is not a LAN broadcast the Switch won't see a LAN world, traffic is routed at the DNS level
  • When you're done playing, revert your DNS back to automatic if you need your normal internet behavior
  • If the connection feels slow, try switching between the EU and US MCCompanion servers to see which works better for you

Not working?

A few things to try:

  • Your phone/tablet and console MUST be on the same WiFi
  • Make sure your console DNS settings are correct
  • Xbox requires an online multiplayer subscription, PlayStation requires PlayStation Plus, and Nintendo Switch requires Nintendo Switch Online, to connect to online multiplayer servers
  • Double-check the IP and port (default: 19132)
  • Verify the DNS config was sent properly in the MCCompanion app
  • Make sure the server you are trying to connect to allows Bedrock players to connect

tip

If Minecraft can't connect at all after changing the DNS, double-check the MCCompanion IP was copied correctly a single wrong digit will break it.
